Most of Lorne's paintings are of his immediate environment: 'I need to be intimately familiar with whatever I paint. When I paint an unfamiliar view, I feel that I fail to catch its essence. I don't want to give the subject short shrift. I prefer to make molehills into mountains, rather than vice versa.'
